Cat Allergies Had Her by the Tail

I am an animal lover, but I’ve always been allergic to cats. When my husband and I moved to a new city, however, I knew I wanted a pet to keep us company. With both of us working, I thought a cat would be better than a dog, and since I had been visiting my in-laws who had a cat without my allergies acting up, I thought I could handle it.

We went to the Humane Society and picked out an adorable orange tabby kitten that had been found on the street. He was about four months old and shy. We fell hook, line and sinker for him. We took him home and showed him around. We tried to get him to play, but all he wanted to do was sit in our laps and be loved. He wanted to sleep on our pillows, so he could be near us. We loved him.

For two weeks, I suffered mightily with my allergies. To avoid the sneezing, itchy, watery eyes and runny nose, I found myself staying later at work. At home, I did anything I could to avoid sitting down, because if I did, Oscar wanted to sit in my lap.

Finally I locked myself in the bathroom and cried. I prayed to God for relief. I did not want to take little Oscar back to the animal shelter, or find someone to adopt him, but I didn’t think I had a choice. Oh, but how we had grown to love him!

In the morning, I woke up with dread. But, to my amazement, I was not sneezing! My eyes were not itching or watering and my nose was not running. Encouraged, I decided I’d wait to do anything about Oscar until that afternoon when I got home. I’d see then if my allergies started up again.

I got home... and nothing happened. All night passed... no sneezing, no... well, anything! We’ve had Oscar now for seven years. He sleeps right next to me. If that’s not God’s touch, I don’t know what is!
