Miracles

The power of His very name

A few years ago, I served the Lord with a group called The Agape Force, which was located in Fresno, California. We served in teams that worked in different places around the country going door-to-door, doing street work as well as church ministry.

Walking down a country-type lane one day, there was a small embankment with a house set back from the road. There was no fence and a dog came rushing out at me, hair raised, teeth bared, barking and snarling.

Without thought, out of my innermost being I cried, "Lord!" Instantly, that dog whirled around and headed the other way.

I stopped, amazed at what had happened. It was then the Holy Spirit brought to my mind the scripture verse, "The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and are safe." (Proverbs 18:10)

I remember thinking with amazement, "There really is power in the name of the Lord." Until then, that had only been a scripture verse, a fact in the Bible, but now it was real to me by experience.

A few days later, while going door-to-door, I came around the corner of a house only to find a large, black dog lying on the step in front of me. He began to rise up growing with hair bristling -- once again.

Before fear could enter in, I remembered what had just happened a few days previously, and I quickly said, "Oh, for heaven's sake, in the name of Jesus Christ, be still!"

He cowered right back down! Wow! Again I was amazed.

I realized God was teaching me through these experiences about the power in His Name. It has been a truth that has stayed with me ever since. Praise God for the name of Jesus.
